Laser Tattoo Removal Scotland

Laser Tattoo Removal  Laser Tattoo Removal  Laser Tattoo Removal

At some time in our lives we can often do something that seems like a good idea at the time and then pay the price of regretting it forever!
Tattoos are often one of these 'good ideas at the time' but so often for one reason or another we decide we simply hate the tattoo that we once loved so much and cannot stand looking at it any longer.

There are many treatments available today using laser or instense light source technology that did not exist 20 years ago. Treatments such as hair removal, vision and eyesight correction, birthmark and tattoo removal, treatment of thread veins and skin lesions, treatment of acne and skin tightening to name but a few.
These treatments now not only exist in medical therapy but have crossed into the beauty sector as well and are now readily available on the high street.

Lasers have been used for many years for a variety of medical and cosmetic procedures because of the benefits that they offer over alternative treatments - and the number of treatments available just continues to increase.

So How Does Laser Work For Tattoo Removal?

The laser is a very short, powerful pulse of controlled light which is absorbed by a specific colour (not surrounding skin) and breaks the colour up into tiny, tiny particles beneath the surface which is then dispersed and carried away by the bodies own natural defence system.

Whilst it is basically that simple, removal will only be achieved after a series of treatments as with each treatment more and more of the particles will be carried away. You should notice at the very least a lightening of the ink with each treatment.

How Many Treatment Sessions Will It Take?

This of course is impossible to say. So many factors are involved with each individual tattoo that no-one would be able to tell you this. It would not be possible to say how many treatments, over what period of time or even how successful the treatment would be but all leading dermatologists agree modern laser treatment is the choice for tattoo removal.

The factors involved are:
The density of the tattoo
The age of the tattoo
The individuals skin reaction to laser light
The colours in the tattoo

Certain colours in tattoos react differently to the light pulse and therefore are easier to lighten/remove than others. There are of course some colours that are much, much more difficult to remove than others and some that are almost impossible due to the way they react (usually green and white).

Does It Hurt?

Whilst it is not painless there will be some degree of discomfort.
Everyone experiences different pain tolerances and therefore some people find it more painful than others.
Many people describe the feeling as 'being pinged very fast with elastic bands'.

How Long Do I Need To Wait Between Treatments?

Usually the healing period is 6-8 weeks between treatments but this can be more precisely measured after your first treatment.

What Can I Expect After Treatment?

Usually the area is white and raised which usually settles after a short period. Sometimes a small amount of pin point bleeding can develop. Some scabbing usually appears within the first week after which the area may be quite pink and dry before settling.
Usually when the tattoo has been removed the skin in the area seems quite a lot lighter than the surrounding skin - this is quite normal and normally returns to its normal or near normal colour. How long this will take though varies from person to person but can take many months.

Are There Any Side Effects Or Possible Risks?

There is a possible risk of minimal scarring on treated areas which is a slightly higher possibilty if the tattoo is particularly deep but there are no known indications of side effects from this type of laser treatment to date.

How Much Does It Cost?

Typically a 15 minute session costs £50 but if your tattoo is on the large side you may book a 30 minute session which of course will then cost £100 - however some tattoos are quite small and do not take 15 minutes to complete a session - in these instances any treatment session 10 minutes or under costs £50.

This page is just a brief rundown of laser tattoo removal - you are more than welcome to contact us if you have any further queries.

A lot of people go for the option of just having enough laser treatments to lighten their tattoo enough to have a new tattoo put over the top.

You will need a consultation with us if you are considering laser tattoo removal at our studio so that we can see the tattoo and go through the treatment and aftercare procedure and discuss your options with you.

The consultation is free of charge.
